ASKO has an immediate opportunity for an Experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer at its corporate headquarters near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Broad, ‘Jack-of-all-Trades’, hands-on experience in many fields is needed: Mechanical, Manufacturing, the Sciences, Problem Solving, and others. Reporting directly to ASKO’s VP for Technology & Quality, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer will have responsibilities to support sales opportunities, product development and improvement, manufacturing plants and processes, and suppliers.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Review customer specifications and drawings, providing guidance to the customer service team regarding manufacturing facility capabilities to achieve the specifications
  • Perform detailed technical review, supervise, and check ASKO’s creation of CAD manufacturing models and drawings to meet customer expectations, prior to releasing for production. Work directly with the inside sales, manufacturing, and procurement teams, developing technical details, materials selection and processing, to facilitate cost effectively produce products to meet customer expectations
  • Investigate customer complaints related to product performance and quality, manufacturing specifications, and manufacturing capabilities
  • Apply and acquire new knowledge of engineering and manufacturing standards and practices
  • Develop, improve, and maintain a knowledge base of the manufacturing capabilities of ASKO manufacturing plants and suppliers and provide the knowledge base as a resource to the customer service team
  • Support the development of products with original designs, improvements, and reverse engineering
  • Develop innovations in product design, manufacturing, materials, and materials processing in support of product and process improvement
  • Resolve engineering and technical/commercial issues in areas of customer applications, material selection, and manufacturing capabilities
  • Plan, coordinate, run, and compile results of customer field trials of new and improved products
  • Support Sales Directors & Agents in the field via on-site claims assessments and technical sales presentations
  • Support new material development initiatives
  • Provide technical review and advice to all functional departments
  • Operate within ASKO’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
  • Other projects as assigned

Minimum Requirements:
  • BS Mechanical Engineering is strongly preferred; equivalent strong manufacturing experience will be considered
  • Minimum of 10 years of mechanical and manufacturing engineering experience, preferably including metal fabrication experience
  • Experience leading projects and working with others to successfully solve problems and improve designs and manufacturing
  • Previous involvement with metals producers and/or metals processors is desirable

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and execute multiple assignments
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy of drawings, specifications, data, and communication
  • Passionate, energetic, results-oriented personality
  • History of successful day-to-day problem solving and longer term business and manufacturing system improvements
  • Expert ability to interpret manufacturing drawings and specifications
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing tolerances and their effect on manufacturability, cost, and quality.
  • Outstanding computer skills including high proficiency with Excel, Word, and Outlook/email
  • Outstanding ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Experience applying the capabilities of 3D CAD (Inventor, Solidworks, or similar)
  • Experience applying the capabilities of FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
  • Broad experience with metal fabrication manufacturing processes: machining, heat treating, grinding, and measurement
  • Ability to apply problem solving methods with successful results
  • Ability to occasionally travel domestically and internationally to customer sites, supplier sites, and ASKO manufacturing plants to represent the company and its interests during those visits
  • Well-developed presentation and group communication skills
  • Ability to work the time needed to achieve customer-expected service levels
